Born in Korea, Jaewoo Kim moved to Australia in 1990 to study at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. He completed his Bachelor of Music and post-graduate diploma at the Canberra School of Music and was the winner of Opera Foundation’s Metropolitan Opera Awards and winner of the McDonalds Aria in 2000. He was a member of Opera Australia's Young Artists' Development Program in 1998 and a principal artist for the company from 2000 - 2006.

In 2007 Jaewoo Kim relocated to the United Kingdom. Opera engagements have included Edgardo Lucia di Lammermoor and the Italian Singer Der Rosenkavalier (English National Opera), Duke Rigoletto (Opera Holland Park), Harlequin in Tarik O'Regan’s The Heart of Darkness (Linbury), Tamino The Magic Flute (Lyric Opera Productions Dublin), Alfredo La Traviata (Longborough Festival), Ferrando Così fan tutte and Orphee Orphee Aux Enfers (Diva Opera in the UK and on tour in Europe) and Alfredo in La Traviata in Udine, Italy and Croatia for Societa Filarmonia,

In Australia he has sung Don Ottavio Don Giovanni, Tamino The Magic Flute, Ferrando Cosi fan tutte and Gerald in Lakmé in for Opera Australia, Gerald in Lakmé in New Zealand for Canterbury Opera, Arbace in a touring production of Idomeneo in Italy, Ottavio in Don Giovanni and the title role in Faust for NBR New Zealand Opera and Rodolfo in La bohème for Wellington National Opera. As a principal at Opera Australia, his roles included Rodolfo La bohème, Almaviva Il barbiere di Siviglia, Jacquino Fidelio, Arbace Idomeneo, Nathanael Les contes d'Hoffmann, Gastone La Traviata and Beppe Pagliacci.

Concert engagements include The Dream of Gerontius with London Mozart Players and Oriana Choir at the Barbican Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 2 with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra which has been released on ABC Classics, Cassio Otello and Beethoven Symphony No. 9 (Melbourne Symphony Orchestra), Beethoven Symphony No. 9 (Sydney and Queensland Symphony Orchestras), Messiah (Sydney Philharmonia and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra), Haydn’s The Creation (Opera Queensland), Haydn’s Nelson Mass (Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra), Shepherd/Sailor Tristan and Isolde (Queensland Music Festival). His ever expanding Choral repertoire includes the masses of Schubert and Haydn and Mendelssohn's Elijah (Canberra Choral Society), Mahler’s Symphony No 8 (Canberra National Multicultural Festival), Handel’s Messiah (Sydney Town Hall and Llewellyn Hall) and Bach's St. John Passion, Britten’s Spring Symphony and Janácek's Glagolitic Mass for the Llewellyn Choir. He has also performed with the Korean Philharmonic Choir at Sydney Town Hall and with Ensemble XXI in Sakhalin and Moscow in Russia under Lygia O'Riordan.

Earlier this year he sang Lensky Eugene Onegin for English Touring Opera and Tamino The Magic Flute for Diva Opera.
