The World Premiere that will rock this year’s BBC Proms
Owen White Management are pleased to announce the BBC Proms debut for solo violinist Daniel Pioro. Recognised as one of the most groundbreaking violinists of his generation, Daniel Pioro joins Radiohead guitarist and award-winning composer Jonny Greenwood with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the BBC Proms Youth Ensemble for a Late Night Prom that reflects their shared musical vision.
PROM 70 on the 10th September tipped by The Times as “a Prom to book” and by the BBC website as “a season highlight” features the World Premiere of Jonny Greenwood’s “Horror vacui” – for solo violin and 68 strings. This unusual BBC Commission explores the characteristics of electronically created music and transfers them into the acoustic arena of the Royal Albert Hall.
The concert opens with Biber’s Passacaglia for solo violin from the Rosary Sonatas which features on Pioro’s debut album DUST.
Jonny Greenwood first collaborated with Daniel Pioro on the soundtrack to Paul Thomas Anderson’s “The Master”, when Pioro led the London Contemporary Orchestra, and it proved to be the beginning of an enduring creative friendship.
Jonny Greenwood was quoted saying “Daniel Pioro’s playing is the sound in my head when I write for the violin. He plays with great passion and tenderness and then there are moments when the instrument appears to play without his conscious control.”
Daniel Pioro says “Playing Jonny’s music, in such a beautiful space, and with such a responsive and brilliant orchestra is a dream. This concert isn’t just a celebration of sound for me, but a celebration of our friendship and of how we both search for the same things in music.”
Daniel Pioro’s debut album for violin and electronics DUST, was released on March 29th with the iconic Icelandic record label Bedroom Community in collaboration with leading record producer and musician Valgeir Sigurðsson.
Daniel Pioro describes title track ‘Dust’ as “a full exploration of the sound world a violin allows. The electronics meld with, lift, surpass and dance around the organic rawness of the strings.”
BBC Radio 3 presenter Elizabeth Alker recently chose one of the tracks, ’Elsewhere’ by Edmund Finnis, for her Radio ‘2019 Shopping list’ and whilst Radio 6 DJ Mary-Anne Hobbs added tracks from DUST to her recommended list on BBC 6
Daniel Pioro makes his solo violin debut at the Wigmore Hall on June 2nd
Prom 70 will be broadcast on Friday 13th September on BBC 4
