Wyn Pencarreg - baritone


Winner of the Erich Vietheer Memorial Award from Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Wyn Pencarreg was born in West Wales. He studied at the Royal Northern College of Music gaining many prizes and scholarships including awards from the Countess of Munster trust, the Peter Moores Foundation and the Wolfson Foundation. He continues his studies with David Pollard.

His most recent operatic engagements include his Royal Opera House main stage debut as Fiorello Il barbiere di Siviglia and Papageno for English Touring Opera. Premières include Papin Babette's Feast for the Royal Opera House, Francis in Julian Grant’s Jump into my sack (Covent Garden Festival), Malcontent in Jonathan Dove’s In search of Angels (Glyndebourne Education), David Perkins's oratorio Re:Creation at St John's, Smith Square and Lalchand The Firework-Maker’s Daughter (The Opera Group).

Concerts include Messiah with the Ulster Orchestra and at Glyndebourne, Voice of Neptune Idomeneo with the Hallé Orchestra and Ortel Die Meistersinger with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. He has broadcast regularly on BBC Radio 3 and on Friday Night is Music Night for BBC Radio 2.

Plans include Sharpless Madama Butterfly for Raymond Gubbay at the Royal Albert Hall and Surin The Queen of Spades for English National Opera.
