Since completing his studies at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and the Royal College of Music Julian Charles has performed in major venues across the UK with notable ensembles and conductors. Highlights include the world première of Magnus Linberg’s Graffiti at the Royal Festival Hall with the Philharmonia under Esa Pekka Salonen; Haydn’s Nelson Mass in Cadogan Hall with the London Mozart Players; Bach’s St John Passion at St John’s Smith Square under Peter Schreier and the UK première of Sinfonia da Requiem ‘Ju-yung Chung’ by Jeajoo Ryu with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonia Chorus conducted by Grzegorz Nowak.

Opera includes Il Paggio Roberto Devereux and Oscar Barb-Bleu (Buxton Festival), Devilshoof The Bohemian Girl (Opera South), Le Duc Hoël Le Vin Herbé (Ardente Opera), Kilian Der Freischütz (Midsummer Opera),Colline La Boheme (Opera Project) and Le Corporal La Fille du Regiment for Diva Opera at the Les Azuriales Opera Festival, Le Théatre du Passage in Switzerland, in Nice, Dijon, Vezere and in various venues across England, Geurnsey and Jersey. He also sang Colline in the highly praised production for the Soho Theatre and The King’s Head Theatre which won both a Whatsonstage Award and an Olivier Award.

He has also given recitals at the Wigmore Hall, Oxford Lieder Festival, Chelsea Schubert Festival, Christ Church Cathedral Recital Series, Hertford College Chapel Music Series, Gloucester Road Recital Series and works regularly with leading UK choral societies including the Royal Choral Society, Canterbury Choral Society, University Of Essex Chamber Choir, Philharmonia Voices, Philharmonia Chorus, Brockham Choral Society and Oundle & District Choral Society. Most recent engagements include Messiah with the Constanza Consort and the Godalming Choral Society; Stainer’s Crucifixion with Morley College Choral Society; Mozart Requiem in Peterborough Cathedral and Fauré Requiem with The Hill Singers.

Future engagements include Brahms’ German Requiem with the Hampstead Chamber Choir, Der Consul in Delius’ Fennimore und Gerda with Ardente Opera and Don Basilio/Fiorello Il barbiere di Siviglia with Pavilion Opera.
