Joseph Doody

Yorkshire-born tenor Joseph Doody studied at the University of Edinburgh, the Royal College of Music and is a recent graduate of the National Opera Studio.

Opera includes Guglielmo in Rossini’s Elisabetta, Regina d’Inghilterra (English Touring Opera), Monsieur Triquet Eugene Onegin (Buxton Festival), Count Almaviva (Regent’s Opera/New Chamber Opera), Governor/King Charles Edward/Inquisitor 2/Senores 1 Candide (West Green House), and Leicester in Maria Stuarda (Opera Up Close). Other roles include the title roles in Albert Herring and The Rake’s Progress, as well as Jupiter Semele, Basilio Le Nozze di Figaro, Bastien Bastien und Bastienne, Pylade Iphigénie en Tauride, Damon Acis and Galatea, Pylade in Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride, and Ernesto Don Pasquale.

Concert performances include Bach’s St John Passion (arias) with the choir of Somerville College, Oxford, Britten’s Serenade for Tenor Horn and Strings and Les Illuminations with Skipton Camerata, Carmina Burana at the Usher Hall, Edinburgh, and Mozart’s Requiem at St Martin-in-the-Fields. Recent concerts include Bach’s St John Passion with the Festival Chorus in London, Bach’s Mass in B minor in Stockton and Haydn’s Creation with Penrith Singers and Epsom Choral Society, Elgar The Kindom with Oakfield Singers and Gounod Messe solonnelle de Sainte-Cécile with the Ensemble Vocal de Montpellier. Future concert engagements include Messiah with Streatham Choral and St John Passion (Evangelist) with the Purcell Orchestra.

Joseph Doody has performed in master classes with Bruce Ford, Lisa Gasteen, David Parry and Nelly Miriciou. He continues to study privately with Tim Evans-Jones.

He is currently performing with Welsh National Opera as Mosquito The Cunning Little Vixen and he returns to WNO next year to cover Ferrando Così fan tutte.
